What exactly does a lifestyle photographer carry on photo shoots? We recently asked one pro to give us a peek at what they carry in our current series, What’s Inside My Camera Bag.
This week, wedding and lifestyle portrait photographer Caroline Tran—a Rangefinder 30 Rising Star of Wedding Photography alumna and speaker at WPPI in August 2021—shares all the photo and video gear she carries for her engagement sessions.
What’s inside Caroline’s camera bag? Let’s have a look.
Cameras and Lenses
Being a lifestyle photographer, Caroline likes to offer a range of formats for her clients including digital, film and video. She states, “Fujifilm GFX 50S (GF 110mm f/2 lens) is my staple. If I’m adding film, then I include my Contax 645 with my Zeiss 80mm f/2. If I’m also doing video, then I bring my Fujifilm X-T4 with my XF 50mm f/1.0.”
When talking lenses, Caroline notes her preference for longer lenses, like the Fujifilm GF 110mm f/2 and XF 50mm f/1.0.
Lighting
Lighting is more essential than one may think, and since we can’t always depend on Mother Nature to shine perfectly at the ideal moments, a photographer must always be equipped with proper lighting. When it comes to lighting, you can find the Profoto B10 in Caroline’s camera bag.
Accessories
Caroline also carries the following accessories with her on photo shoots:
- Tripod
- Light stand
- Profoto XL Umbrella
- Diffuser
- Reflector
- Tiffen ND Filter (for video, on my XF 50mm f/1)
- L Bracket
Miscellaneous
As far as the miscellaneous items go, Caroline is ultra-practical in remembering to bring three essential items inside her camera bag: scissors, mosquito repellent and Band-Aids.
