Empowerment Photography with Boudoir Confidence
August 8, 2023
Lindsay Hite’s Boston-area, full-service photography studio, Show Your Spark, draws from the boudoir genre to create empowerment photography that makes her clients feel confident, beautiful, and powerful. She joined host Nikki Closser on The Portrait System Podcast to talk about how all that she offers brings her a $5,000 sales average.
Hite had her first photography experiences in high school developing photos in a black and white darkroom. She followed her interest into college where she majored in photography. When she graduated in 2008, the country was in recession. Hite worked her first jobs at a photo lab and as a photographer’s assistant, keeping her eye on all the chaos in the photo business world. At the same time, the photography world was shifting away from film into digital. It was a time of great transitions. Hite started her own business in 2008, shooting weddings. Then, suddenly in 2016, Hite had a big shift in her mindset that compelled her to turn her business upside down.

Hite says, “I loved weddings, but once I knew I had this other thing that I loved even more, which was helping women feel confident every day, I knew that I couldn’t give my wedding clients the just passion that they deserved.” Hite gradually scaled down on weddings while opening her new business, Show Your Spark, which is dedicated to enlivening the light in every woman so that she can, in turn, light up the world.

Hite, with the help of her family, converted an auto repair shop into a full-service photo studio, complete with custom-built sets for bonus scenes and a mini black-box theater for same day reveals. While Hite uses the term “boudoir photography” for her page SEO, she really considers what she does to be empowerment photography. For Hite, an empowerment session begins with her coming to understand on a deep level what her client wants to get out of a shoot. This can mean tuning in with why they feel this is the right time for it, whether it is because there is something they want to celebrate or if they just need a boost to feel more confident. Hite’s consultations enable her to tune into what will bring her clients the most joy and satisfaction with their completed photos. Hite’s care in making sure her clients receive images they love translates into her $5,000 sales average.
