Daylight to Tungsten: Westcott’s $359 Solix Bi-Color

For photographers that may be looking for portrait starter kits, Westcott has updated their Daylight Solix line of LEDs with the new Solix Bi-Color, an affordable, easy-to-use white light system.

With starter kits available, variable tungsten to daylight in Westcott’s $359 Solix Bi-Color, an affordable, easy-to-use white light LED system for portrait photographers.
The $1,299 Jen Rozenbaum Signature 2-Light bundle with two Solix Bi-Color heads, stands, Westcott 2 x 3 Softbox and Westcott 1 x 3 Stripbank diffusion panels.

At $359, the Solix Bi-Color has an adjustable color temperature range of 2800 to 5600K to achieve tungsten to daylight.

With magnetic 12-inch collapsible softbox, half-stop hard diffusion cap and barndoors, the Solix Bi-Color has a new magnetic mount design for snap-on light mods. The eight-pin speedring will also support legacy light shaping tools.

There are a couple of ready-to-go kits prepared by Westcott for the Solix Bi-Color, only. At $1,299, the Jen Rozenbaum Signature 2-Light bundle comes with two Solix Bi-Color heads, stands and accessories. It also includes two diffusion panels, the Westcott 2 x 3—as in feet—Softbox and Westcott 1 x 3 Stripbank models.

For a much broader diffusion softbox, the Solix Bi-Color is also packaged with the Apollo Orb for $459. The Apollo Orb is an octagonal panel with 43- inch diagonal.

Outputting 3100 lux at 3.28 feet, the Solix Bi-Color has a 97 CRI and 98 TLCI rating. Currently marked down to $299, the Solix Daylight was originally $399.

Westcott told Rangefinder that it will continue to sell the Solix Daylight for the “forseeable future,” and that the same accessories fit both models.

The continuous LED lights can be run up to 100 minutes through battery power. Portable D-Tap batteries for the system are available from Westcott at an extra $319, which also work with their Flex Daylight/Bi-Color LED mats.
