Hot on the heels of their $199 Laowa 4mm f/2.8 fisheye lens, Venus Optics has released the $399 Laowa 65mm f/2.8 2X Ultra Macro APO portrait lens for Fuji X, Sony E and Canon M cameras with APS-C sensors.

In addition to a focal angle that is flattering for faces and portraiture, the Laowa 65mm is also a macro lens with 2x magnification. That makes subjects twice as large as life, ideal for detail shots like wedding rings and bouquets.

At only 0.7 pounds portrait-length is much more compact and lightweight over comparable 65mm full-frame models. Their first macro for APS-C sensors, the image circle of the lens has been designed specifically to cover mirrorless cameras from corner to corner.

Special attention has also been given to chromatic noise in the areas of focus as well as in background and bokeh.

It’s inherited a similar APO glass element design as the Laowa 100mm f/2.8 2X macro for full-frame cameras. With an internal focus design, the minimum focus distance is only 6.7 inches.

The lens is available now.
