Sony has announced the release of a new large-aperture, ultra-wide-angle full-frame prime lens, the FE 20mm F1.8 G, which will be available starting in March 2020. In their announcement of the new lens, Sony highlighted a few features of the design and performance:

Lens features

  • Two advanced aspherical elements and three extra-low-dispersion glass elements, which Sony says will limit chromatic aberration and ensure minimal distortion at the frame edges, even at F1.8.
  • A minimum focus distance of 7.5 inches
  • An advanced optical design that will allow the lens to excel in low-light applications such as astrophotography
  • A compact, lightweight construction: the FE 20mm F1.8 G weighs only 13.2 oz
  • Two extreme dynamic (XD) Linear Motors for fast autofocus and a customizable focus hold button and on/off switch.
