OM System M.Zuiko 20mm f/1.4 Lens is Small But Mighty
November 5, 2021
OM Digital Solutions, the company that acquired Olympus, has rebranded its line and launched the first product under the new brand: the OM System M.Zuiko 20mm f/1.4 lens. It’s a compact, lightweight and weatherproof lens that delivers a 40mm-equivalent focal length on Micro Four Thirds cameras.

Despite its small size (2.5 inches in diameter and 2.4 inches in length) and 8.7 ounces, the M.Zuiko 20mm f/1.4 lens is fast and packs a lot of glass inside. Optics include 11 elements in 10 groups, including one Super ED, three ED, two Super HR and two Aspherical elements. That’s optical alphabet soup for a lens that promises to deliver clear, high-resolution, sharp images with little to no unwanted distortion or flare.

Fluorine coating on the front of the M.Zuiko 20mm f/1.4 lens helps repel dirt and dust and makes it easier to wipe clean. The fluorine coating also complements the lens’ weatherproofing. Thanks to specially placed seals, the lens is dustproof, splashproof and freeze proof (to 14 degrees F). Of course, you’ll need to pair it with an equally weatherproofed camera, like the OM-D E-M5 Mark III, for the best results. The lens and camera are IPX1 rated, so you can easily shoot in the rain or at the beach and anywhere in between.

Given its 40mm-equivalent focal length and compact size, this little lens is versatile and portable. It travels well; whether you’re headed to a destination wedding on the beach, a local park for portraits or an outdoor adventure for fun, the M.Zuiko 20mm f/1.4 lens will come in handy.

Naturally, the 20mm f/1.4 lens is primed for bokeh. OM Digital Solutions promises soft and smooth “feathered bokeh” without unwanted aberration. From what we’ve seen on the site and in sample images, this lens looks like it delivers some beautiful bokeh.

It’s reasonably priced, too. The 20mm f/1.4 lens is estimated to ship at the end of December for $800. Pre-orders are currently being accepted.
