ColorMunki Color Management

Color management gurus tell us we need to check a monitor and printer once a month in order to maintain accurate colors. I suspect few readers do so, and I am bad about it myself. In my case, it has not been a problem as I rarely make prints. My images either appear on the Web—where viewers are more than likely seeing them on an uncalibrated monitor anyway—or in magazines, where the final look is out of my hands.

I recently received a ColorMunki Photo spectrophotometer to review, which has finally forced me to do what I should always do!
First, I calibrated the 27-inch iMac I purchased nearly two years ago. It took about five minutes and was easy to perform. Yes, there was a difference after calibration, but not very noticeable. I guess it shows that the iMac has a good quality, balanced monitor.

I also use a Dell monitor and it is at least six years old. I know it has needed calibrating as the images displayed on it and the iMac have been out of whack for sometime. In this case the ColorMunki successfully recalibrated it so that the two screens now match. Then I ran the ColorMunki on my new Macbook Air and, like the iMac, there was barely any difference before or after calibration.
