Tamron Pulls Back Curtain on Three New Lenses

February 20, 2019

By Greg Scoblete

Tamron is planning to introduce three new lenses for mid 2019, targeting both DSLR and Sony E-mount camera owners.

The company will preview the new lenses at WPPI 2019 next week and at the CP+ show in Japan. Pricing, availability and full specs aren’t available just yet, but here’s what we do know.

17-28mm F/2.8 Di III RXD (Model A046)

According to Tamron, this Sony E-mount wide-angle zoom lens (pictured above) will be very compact with a 67mm filter diameter. It will deliver an f/2.8 aperture throughout its zoom range and be able to focus on objects as close as 7.5 inches at the wide-angle setting. Autofocusing will be driven by the RXD (Rapid eXtra-silent stepping Drive) stepping motor unit.

35-150mm F/2.8-4 Di VC OSD (Model A043)

This DSLR zoom lens will have a minimum object distance of 17.7 inches across the entire zoom range. It will use LD (Low Dispersion) glass elements and aspherical lenses to keep aberrations at bay and use a Dual MPU (Micro-Processing Unit) system for autofocusing and vibration reduction.

SP 35mm F/1.4 Di USD (Model F045)

This looks to be Tamron’s statement DSLR lens, celebrating the 40th anniversary of its SP series. It will offer a high-precision AF system and high resolving capability.
