Sigma’s New Trio of Lenses for Fujifilm X Mount Cameras

February 22, 2022

Sigma just announced the company’s first lenses for Fujifilm X Mount cameras. To start, Sigma is releasing a trio of X Mount compatible fast prime lenses. Designed for Fujifilm’s APS-C X-series cameras and draw from Sigma’s DC DN Contemporary line, the initial three models include the 16mm, 30mm and 56mm f/1.4 lenses. (If you already own any one of these lenses with a different mount, Sigma’s Mount Conversion Service can convert them to X Mount.)

Compact and lightweight, the lenses should balance well on X-series cameras. The 16mm weighs 14.3 ounces (maybe add a little for the supplied petal-shaped lens hood) and measures 3.6 inches with a 2.8 inch diameter. The 30mm weighs even less at 9.7 ounces and measures 2.9 inches with a 2.6 inch diameter. And, the 56mm weighs 9.9 ounces and measures a mere 2.4 inches with a 2.6 inch diameter. With a minimum aperture of f/16 and a maximum of f/1.4, users will have enough flexibility to control depth of field and the ability to create the bokeh needed for portraits and dreamy wedding images.

All three lenses come with a weather sealed mount for protection when shooting outdoors (as long as the body is sealed as well, of course). Sigma notes that it has developed a control algorithm for X Mount interchangeable lenses so users can count on the lens and camera bodies communicating with each other for high-speed AF, continuous AF and, when available on the camera, the lens will support aberration correction.

With about a 1.5x crop factor on X-series cameras, all three lenses will complement any photographer’s gear bag delivering a 35mm-equivalent of 24mm, 45mm and a portrait-ready 84mm.

Tentatively scheduled for an April 2022 release, the 16mm, 30mm and 56mm Sigma lenses will be available for $449, $339 and $479, respectively.
