It’s no surprise that there are some big changes this year at WPPI, most notably the new venue (the Las Vegas Convention Center) and expanded show floor. But that’s not all that’s new—attendees looking at the presentation lineup will see that it is packed with new speakers from across the globe, all ready and willing to share their unique perspectives and expertise. Here, we interviewed new speaker Salvatore Dimino to learn more about his upcoming Master class.

Master Class: How Can We Find Our Own Style
February 8, 10:30 a.m. -12:30 p.m.
What can attendees expect to learn from your presentation?
SD: In my presentation, I will explain how we as photographers can be different from each other, and how we can each create our own unique, personal approach. I am going to play behind-the-scenes videos that show me working real weddings. This will give all the attendees a chance to get inspired by my way of shooting. Plus, I am going to give attendees new ideas to create fresh images in all types of locations, whether it be indoors or outdoors, to use as a foundation to create their own style.
How can photographers of different backgrounds and genres benefit from the lessons you’ll provide?
SD: In my opinion, photography is the same all across the world, no matter what genre you shoot. The difference stems from the culture that uses it and how different cultures think about it. My hope is that, after my class, attendees will feel more motivation and love for the art of photography—no matter what culture you come from.
In what ways have you adapted your photography over the years? How did this benefit you in the long run?
SD: After attending many seminars throughout my career, one of the biggest changes I’ve made had to do with my mindset. I realized that I needed to start taking pictures for my clients and not just for me. My images now are much more focused on the subject instead of my photography and the skills I’m trying to show. This has helped my work tremendously—it’s one of the reasons I’ve been able to develop a style and look that is, in my opinion, so unique.
What is your favorite and least favorite food?
SD: I love food! As you can imagine I am very lucky to live in Italy, so it is not easy to pick a favorite, but as a good Italian, I’d have to say that my most-loved dish is Pasta alla Boscaiola. The only food that I don’t like is cauliflower.
