10 Questions for Jen Rozenbaum: Boudoir Photographer, Badass Reader and Hot Sauce Disciple

1. What’s one thing few people know about shooting boudoir?
For me, boudoir is not about sex. Everyone assumes it is, but for me it’s about expression of a woman’s unique femininity, shamelessly!

2. What’s one of your favorite childhood memories?
One of my favorite things about being a kid in my neighborhood was that all my friends lived really close by. After school, we were ALWAYS outside. It’s not like today where I have to make play dates and plans for my kids. We just went out and whatever happened, happened. Sometimes it was baseball in the court. Other times it was lip-syncing to Bon Jovi in my friend’s basement. We always came home at 6 p.m. for dinner. And we did it without cell phones!

3. What are you reading right now?
I just finished You Are a Badass by Jen Sincero.

4. What’s been one of the biggest learning moments for you as a photographer?
The year I shot 300 women and realized it was because I was way too inexpensive—even though I was bringing in a lot of money, I wasn’t getting to keep much. That was when I made big changes in the way my business and pricing was structured.

5. What’s one piece of photo-related accessory that you can’t live without?
My Sigma 50mm Art lens.

6. What would you say is one of your quirks?
I put hot sauce on almost everything.

7. If you had one month to do whatever you wanted (nothing to do with photography), what would you do?
I think I would split the time. I would spend two weeks in a foreign country learning yoga from a master. The other two weeks I would spend helping women in need in an underprivileged country. It sounds so cliché, but I think about both of those things often.

8. What in photography are you dying to try this year?
I always look forward to pushing myself with lighting. It’s one of the areas I think you never stop learning. I am working on a project with Sigma to showcase women that have been great influencers in the world. I am looking forward to doing that and pushing my creativity.

9. What’s your favorite food? Least favorite?
My favorite food is pizza. Hands down. I could live on it. My least favorite is anything with tentacles. Blech.

10. What photo trend have you been enjoying most?
In the boudoir world, I had a lot of fun trying the milk bath craze last year. I don’t know what is in store for 2016 just yet—I just hope it doesn’t involve food this time.
