According to Scotland-based wedding photographer Jacqui Paterson of Chic Photo, couple Iona and Allan had an epic plan for their day: getting married on the shore of Loch Fad, Isle of Bute (an island in the Firth of Clyde in Scotland)—complete with amazing sunsets—and a marquee tent set up out by Stravannan Bay, with gorgeous views of the mountains of Arran.

“I think when I met up with them I was asking what the back up plan was if it rained,” Paterson recalls. “I don’t think there was one. Luckily we didn’t need it. The sun was scorching, but it was still a perfect day for an outdoor wedding. I met Iona in her house as she was getting ready.

Paterson says the Groom’s Dad runs the fisheries at the Loch Fad, so they decided to hold the ceremony there.

“They used hay bales and boats filled with ice to cool drinks. We were very lucky to have such a sunny day especially in Scotland. After the ceremony on the Loch we managed to grab one of the boats and I sent them out for a quick row.  The biggest challenge we had on the day was me communicating on land to them in the boat and trying to get the right angle to capture the Isle of Arran in the background!”

Next, they headed to a nearby field overlooking the beach where a marquee was set up. The guests played outdoor games and the bar served dry ice cocktails. “The sun beamed through the open wall of the marquee as guests sat down to speeches and dinner,: says Paterson. “I took Iona and Allan to a nearby field just in time for the the last of the sun as it set over the sea.”
