Photographer Khairidwan Nizam traveled from his native Malaysia to Yoyogi Park, Japan, to capture this post-wedding photo session. While Khairidwan wasn’t this couple’s wedding photographer, he was recommended for the shoot by a mutual friend. It took just one consultation session for him to realize the strong connection he had with the couple. “They were definitely the right clients for me,” Khairidwan says.

The couple, who is currently based in Tokyo, chose the location for the beauty of the scenery and proximity to their home. “It was Autumn when we had this shoot, and the maple leaves had already started to turn a beautiful yellow and red,” Khairidwan says. “It was gorgeous and eye-catching.”

But even though they all had a good rapport, the couple was naturally shy and took some time to warm up to the camera. “I tried to make them feel comfortable by asking questions, making jokes and treating them likes friends,” Khairidwan explains. Once he noticed the couple was finally in their comfort zone, he asked the husband to hug his new wife. “She had a big smile on her face, and that’s when I hit the shutter.”
