Photos of the Week
When photographers Kat and Ash—otherwise known as The Springles—were hired to cover this French Alps wedding of couple Kate and Zac, they knew it would be important to include some of the context of the surroundings in the bride and groom portraits.
“We wanted both the quintessential ski chalets and the foliage in the foreground to frame and balance the shot,” the photo duo explain.
“Around sunset we took a stroll back up the hill from the party. The light was changing rapidly, so timing was important for this shot. We knew we wanted to line up the couple with the shadow line on the mountain range behind them.”
Kat and Ash say that because there were a couple of unattractive roof structures below the couple, as well as a dirt path, there was a bit of bending and “yoga” moves going on behind the camera to get everything to align. In the end, they got exactly the shot they wanted.
“We love this shot because there were no compromises. It felt like we had all the ingredients we needed to do our best work—good light, the time and space to consider and compose the shot, and a beautiful setting.”
