Photographer Uses Color to Focus on Bridal Ceremony

Looking back at this ceremony, wedding photographer Peter Olvera, who is based in Mexico, recalls how special it was for a multitude of reasons. For one: the colors.

The brides chose to exchange vows at a sprawling, sun-drenched vineyard with lots of beautiful trees (offering lots of beautiful shade). They had set up a wedding arbor with streams of multicolored pom-poms blowing cheerfully in the breeze as guests looked on.

That was the challenge for Olvera, however: How would he capture this emotional, pinnacle moment for the brides? He wanted to include the colorful pom-poms, but not so much the guests.

“I approached them as much as I could during that special moment” without interfering, he says, and “the only thing I wanted was to ‘hide’ the guests from the background with the color wall they had at the ceremony.” Centering the brides in the frame, he pulled down his ISO and did just that.
