Photos of the Week
Phase One’s Capture One recently launched a photo competition on social media as part of its Dedication Campaign, aimed at showcasing the dedication and inspiration behind pro photographers. First-prize winner Felix Hernandez, based in Cancun, Mexico, won for this image, “Myth Mountains.” Using six photos merged into one, Hernandez wanted to depict a fantasy world similar to that of Star Wars.
“Myth Mountains,” he says, is part of a series he started a few years ago when he began shooting toys and scale models. “It was the last photo I did of the series ‘Troopers,’ using the Black Series Star Wars Toys, and for it I wanted to do something different,” Hernandez explains. “I tried for four days to get the shots on location since I was looking for a soft light and for that I needed an overcast day. In the studio it’s easy, because you’re in control of the light, but on location, you have to seek, wait and be patient. Sometimes you have to keep going back to the same spot for several days until the conditions are just right for what you are looking for.”
Congrats to Hernandez, as well as to second-prize winner Juan Osorio‘s for “Take Me To The Moon” and third-prize winner Nick Kontostavlakis for “Classroom in Rwanda.”
