Photos of the Week
Ana Galloway, a wedding photographer based in New Zealand, was working with a couple who had flown in from the UK to host their wedding at Boomrock, a natural spot that she explains as “a beautiful lodge located at the top of some cliffs on the west coast of New Zealand.” But before they ventured to the coastal cliffs, they wanted to shoot a session in the inner city, which would visually serve as a “stark contrast to the rugged and wild landscapes out at Boomrock Lodge.”
Galloway had already done some scouting the day before, which proved to be important because she isn’t from Wellington, “so it was all pretty new,” she says. “Nothing was quite jumping out at me, just the usual inner-city vibe, shop facades, departments stores and alleyways, all of which would work fine but I wanted something a bit extraordinary.” It wasn’t until Galloway walked back to her car that she spotted, between two buildings, a strange, angular pyramid shape. “I instantly knew this was the spot,” she says.

On the wedding day, Galloway took the couple there. “I observed the lines of the steps, the pyramid shape and where Arna and Kyle were positioned,” she explains. “I particularly love this image, being such a fleeting moment—the way Arna is sorting out her dress, Kyle glancing back waiting for her, and the birds give it that extra special factor, an image that can never be recreated again.”
