For New York-based photographer Steven Young of Stak Studios, an impactful image is all about clever lighting. The Rf 30 Rising Star from 2012 captured these newlyweds in the stairway of New York City’s St. Jean Baptiste Roman Catholic Church. “There’s a nice big window on the stairs, so we took a moment to do a few portraits and take advantage of the natural light,” he says.
To add some extra highlights, Young had his assistant shine a light towards the groom, allowing the light to bounce off the groom’s white shirt and bow tie and reflect into the bride’s face. “One of my goals for every wedding is to capture moments that are beautiful and real,” Young says. “This is one of my recent favorites because it is just that: beautiful and real.”
