For Wedding Dress Drama, Photographer Captures It in Mid-Air

Vanessa Hicks says the concept for this shot was pretty simple: She wanted to emphasize the incredible train on this wedding dress. What better way to do that then by showing off the length? And what more dramatic way to do that then by tossing it in the air?

Thankfully, Hicks already had a dramatic landscape and floral structure to work with, so she imitated the arch, emphasized the eye-popping views and sought help from an assistant to get the timing just where it needed to be.

“This shot needed to be dramatic!” she exclaims. “I had someone on the side hold her train up and jump away—and boom, dramatic!”
