Photos of the Week
L.A.-based photographer Elle Wildhagen, who’s one half of the duo behind Kindred Wedding Storytellers, is used to the jittery vibes when she’s photographing women together at weddings. “There tends to be a lot of hair fixing, makeup touch-ups and nerves,” she explains, “and it is often the unedited and uninhibited flower girl that diverts attention and breaks any feelings of self-consciousness.”
At this wedding, Wildhagen had the bride, bridesmaids and flower girl pulled aside for a photo session inspired by the fashion editorial pages of Vogue. Near a picturesque seaside, she prompted the group to walk towards her, and the flower girl did not hesitate. Wildhagen says she “immediately leaped forward posing, making sounds and movements while the rest of the wedding party giggled.” And the wedding photographer wasted no time in getting down on her level—literally.
“By getting down on a lower angle, I make the view point more from a child’s view than an adult’s, placing her as the center focus, as larger than life, while still keeping the depth-of-field not too shallow to leave out the context of the wedding party,” Wildhagen explains. “Although it was 3 p.m. and sunny, a perfect cloud came out at that moment, creating a diffused and warm glow over the subjects, turning it into our very own editorial Vogue fashion shoot.”
