Fleeting Moments [Rf Photo of the Day]

Right after the first look at this wedding in Wilmington, North Carolina, the bride and groom parted ways to get ready for the ceremony. “The bride had to descend these insanely steep, old wooden church steps in very high heels,” says Raleigh, North Carolina-based photographer Adam Chapin. “I knew she would be passing by this staircase, so I positioned myself in a place where I could capture a bit of the window and the stairs, and still have enough room in the frame for her dress as it trailed behind her.”

To capture the motion of the bride’s dress during her descent, Chapin set his camera to a slow shutter speed (1/10 of a second) and waited for her to hit the right spot—right where the back of her head was still faintly lit by the window light. “I wanted to portray the feeling we all experience on our wedding day,” Chapin says. “That feeling that the day goes by so quickly—almost too quickly sometimes.”
