Eye-Catching Portraits and Photos of the Week
October 3, 2022
This week, we hone in on the consistent documentary approach of one wedding photography studio, and the attention to detail of another. View the featured images below and get the back story on how each one was executed.
Alongside her partner Adrian SIlvester, Anna Rowland of UK-based Luna Weddings says her documentary approach to weddings is executed in a very relaxed way. “We like to blend into the day like friends and watch for the less obvious moments as well as the big ones,” she explains. “Being able to offer frozen moments in time to be remembered forever is a real honor and a privilege.”

The image above was taken at couple Emma and Gareth’s wedding at Pynes House in Exeter, Devon, England.
Rowland used her Sony A7 III and 35mm lens to take the shot. “There’s no flash—they are being backlit by the DJ’s lights (and haze), and I had two video lights behind the couple on either side.”

The image below is also by Rowland, from Sandra and Jerome’s wedding at Huntsham Court in Devon. “I love that the nerves just before the ceremony are so palpable with bride Sandra here,” says Rowland. We love the pure documentary feel of the image, which was photographed on a Sony A7 III with a 35mm lens.

“Kids are great at weddings, and often my favorite muses for the day,” says Rowland about this image below, taken in Surrey, England. “They are so very much themselves and make wonderful subjects—and sometimes even little friends—for the day.”

Below, an image by Rowland’s partner, Adrian Silvester, taken at Damien and Paul’s wedding at The Great Barn in Exeter, England.

It was photographed on a Sony A7 III camera and Sony 50mm f/1.4 lens. A Godox flash was also used, set at 1/64. We love the movement in the scene, and can feel the emotions of the couple coming through in their embrace.

Lastly, an image by Kylie Farmer, taken at a destination wedding in Whitefish, Montana. The bride worked in the forestry service and wanted the landscape to really shine in her gallery and choice of venue, says Farmer.

“She was very expressive with how much she loved her wedding details—including the flowers and hairstyles—and I spent the entire wedding keeping that in the back of my mind.” (Photographed with a Nikon D780 and Nikon 35mm f/1.4 lens.)
