Photos of the Week
Guanajuato, a city in central Mexico that’s known for its colonial architecture and silver mining history. In fact, in the 18th century, Guanajuato became the leading site of silver extraction in the world.
The structure pictured prominently in this image (taken by wedding photographer Sebastian Bravo of Arte Visual MF), called the Mina de Guadalupe, was one such production site. Resurrected in the 18th century, what was once a space dedicated to smelting silver extracted from the mines is now a wedding venue. Adding to its architectural interest, the structure slopes slightly downward on a hill, its interiors invaded by plant life (albeit tastefully contained by the venue) and its roof completely deteriorated.
“This is one of my favorite spots in Guanajuato,” says Bravo, who photographed a wedding there and shared this shot with us earlier this year. “This photo was during the first look before their ceremony, and I love this awesome view!” Bravo used a prism as he photographed this one, reflecting the majestic structure at the bottom of the frame.
