Bubbly Bathtub Bliss

Photographer Elizabeth Larson shot this joyful image in her bathroom one late afternoon when, she says, her kids were bored and she needed a way to provide them with some quick, fun entertainment that served more than one purpose. “I told them they could add as many bubbles as they’d like, and man, did they take me seriously! Next thing I knew, my boys had grabbed their goggles, dumped all the bubbles in, and were seriously having the time of their lives.”

As luck would have it, the sun had just begun to pour through the window when Larson walked in to check back in on them. “I ran to grab my camera and told them they could throw the bubbles at each other while I stood back and took the shot,” she explains. “I think the hardest part of creating the shot was just trying to grab my camera fast enough.”

Larson says she ended up with so many great images from this wild bath time fun, but ended up choosing this one as her favorite because, she says, “you can so easily see the pure joy radiating from my kids’ faces. As author Jill Churchill once said, ‘There’s no way to be a perfect mother and a million ways to be a good one.’ Turns out sometimes extra bubbles is all it takes.”
