Photos of the Week
This groom—the gent in the front holding a bottle of beer and cigar—wasn’t like most grooms that Steven and Rita Baker of Bakerture Photo & Video have encountered before. “Most have been filled with nerves leading up to the ceremony,” they say. But not Danny. “They decided to take a break from portraits to do a bobsled skit,” the Bakers say. Why not?
It was mostly fun and games, but there were a couple of challenges to capturing the playfulness of the moment: first, making sure no one spilled beer on their blue suits; second, getting all the men in focus. “Shooting at f/1.4 and standing directly in front of them only allowed for the groom to be in focus,” Steven says. “However, I scooted to the left of them and told them all to lean to the right like a real bobsled crew would. That allowed me to get them all on the same plane.”
All in all, the Bakers say these groomsmen gave them quite a laugh, and it was a refreshing departure from traditional portraits. “We love the way the image really showcases the group’s personality,” say the Bakers—especially with regard to the groom.
