The night before this bride’s wedding, the mother of the bride had a terrifying episode that left her spending the night in the hospital. “Briseyda and Chris [the bride and groom] were trying to determine if they should cancel the wedding,” photographer Leah Moyers recalls, but miraculously the bride’s mom was released several hours before the ceremony and they decided to keep the big day as planned.

The last-minute panic left some lingering chaos throughout the getting-ready session. But, says Moyers, “despite the commotion, limited time and challenging church basement lighting, I was able to get a series of shots I loved of Briseyda with her mom and younger sister assisting with the veil. I loved this moment—the light and the lines in the frame. For Briseyda’s mom, this was one of the most important moments of the day.”
