30 Rising Star Rafal Borek Waits Patiently for His Compositions

November 18, 2019

Throughout the month of November, our Photo of the Day series will be taken over by each of Rangefinder‘s newly minted 30 Rising Stars of Wedding Photography in 2019. The 30 honorees are featured in our November issue, and each of their full, 30-photo submissions, reviewed by the competition judges, can be found in our online gallery. Natural moments, the highs and lows, the mix of emotions that come with getting married…Rafal Borek finds the beauty and artistic composition in all of it, especially the moments that unfold naturally. “Over the past three years, I’ve pushed myself to make the portrait element natural with as little direction as possible,” says Borek, who’s based in Sligo, Ireland.

With black-and-white imagery being his first love and the mirrorless camera taking over the industry, he says he took advantage of the monochrome viewfinder, to minimize any distraction while composing an image, and it makes him even more sensitive to the importance of light in photography.

In the gallery above are his behind-the-scenes insights on three of the photos from his submission this year.
