Getty Images will soon award $85,000 to photojournalists and non-profit photography programs. Announced on Thursday, March 31, the Getty Images Editorial Grants supports photographers and videographers highlighting diversity in the industry, as well as those capturing stories of forced displacement. The grant program also includes two $15,000 grants awarded to non-profit organizations. The Editorial Grants are part of the larger Getty Images grant offerings.

The Editorial Photography: Forced Displacement grant awards $5,000 grants to three selected photographers or videographers that are capturing stories of forced displacement. Getty says that the judges will be looking for images that tell a story about those forced to flee due to persecution, conflict, violence, human rights violations, climate change, or other events that are “seriously disturbing public order.” The program is open to ongoing or new projects on the theme, with the goal of producing a photo essay or a documentary video under ten minutes long highlighting the issues.

The Getty Images Inclusion Grants will be awarded to those photographers promoting diversity in the industry. Held in partnership with Women Photograph and Diversify Photo, this category includes several grants for women, non-binary, and photographers from underrepresented communities. The grants provide funding to complete personal projects or otherwise meet needs to further the photographer’s career. The program will award eight $5,000 grants.

The program will also award two $15,000 grants to non-profit organizations that support documentary photography. The funds can be used towards educational programs, workshops, exhibitions and other similar initiatives, Getty says.

The Editorial Grants are part of Getty’s larger program, which also includes creative grants. The program has awarded more than $1.8 million since its launch.

Entries for the grant programs are due by May 15, 2022 at midnight Pacific Time. Application instructions and requirements can be found at grants.gettyimages.com.
