Several members of the Canon Legends program will soon mint a collection of iconic images as NFTs. Specifically, the Legends Mint is an NFT collection dropping on June 30 featuring iconic images from seven members of the Canon Legend program.

Launched with NFT marketplace Immutable Image, the Legends Mint includes photographs from National Geographic photographer Sam Abell, fashion and portrait artist Barbara Bordnick, portrait artist Gregory Heisler, iconic fine-art photographer Joyce Tenneson, renowned fashion photographer Melvin Sokolsky, special effects artist Ryszard Horowitz, and iconic sports photographer Walter Iooss Jr. Organizers say that the goal of the collection is to “cultivate a vibrant and growing NFT photography community.”

The drop will include ten images from each artist minted through the Solana platform on OpenSea. The drop includes both single edition images as well as limited editions of up to 100. Organizers say that each of the participating photographers will have at least one 1/1 exclusive images.
Buyers, however, will pay one price and receive a randomly selected image. This is an approach taken by many platforms, with the prospect of receiving a rare edition for one set price alluring to many buyers. After the public sale, some buyers may choose to sell or trade their NFTs on OpenSea.

Canon Legends is a program launched in 2020 that brings iconic photographers together to speak at events, lead workshops, share tips and techniques and share their knowledge with other photographers. The list includes past Canon Explorers of Light and now features 18 photographers. The mint is being organized by Immutable Image, while Canon USA is a marketing partner (and does not earn any percentage of the sales.)
The NFT drop is slated for July 11, with an invitation-only, pre-sale Whitelist. The time of the drop and price of the NFTs have not yet been announced. Collectors can sign up for email updates on the Legends Mint page, or learn more at Immutable Image.
