Adobe just released a slew of updates across its Creative Cloud applications, which you can read more about on the company’s blog. Meanwhile, here are some of the new and improved features and highlights that will be of most interest to photographers.
Keep in mind, though, that there’s a difference between Lightroom desktop, Lightroom mobile and Lightroom Classic. Yes, it’s confusing but we’ve tried to clarify here which updates apply to the different LR applications.

In Lightroom (desktop and mobile), users can now create multiple iterations of the same image in the Versions panel without having to save a file for each variation. The just hover the mouse over each version to compare edits.

With the updated version of Lightroom desktop, you can now add text watermarks. And, syncing images between Lightroom for iPad and Photoshop for iPad is now available, so you can seamlessly send images between the two if you need features that one app has and the other doesn’t.
For Lightroom desktop, mobile and Classic, the new Local Hue adjustment makes it easy to adjust colors locally. Portrait and wedding photographers will appreciate this new feature to fine-tune skin tones.

Adobe has improved the performance of Lightroom Classic, speeding up tasks such as scrolling through images, searching and filtering. The response time when scrubbing edit sliders in the Develop module has also been enhanced. In addition to new default presets, you can now create presets for importing images based on ISO settings. This allows you to apply specific adjustments according to ISO. There’s also a new Centered Crop Overlay tool for centering an image and User Interface (UI) improvements have been made to Sync, Tone Curve and Color tools.

There’s not much new in Adobe Photoshop but the one feature that stood out could be a game-changer, particularly for portrait and wedding photographers. Optimized for portraits, Select Subject automatically selects and masks your subject. And, from the demo we saw, it does an excellent job selecting the fine hairs that usually require painstaking work.
In addition to an enhanced user interface, Adobe Camera Raw 12.3 features some of the updates found in other applications such as an improved Curve panel, ISO adaptive presets, local hue adjustment, center crop overlay and more. Also new is the ability to choose the position of the filmstrip.
While the scope of updates extends beyond photo software, we have concentrated just on some of the highlights for Photoshop, Lightroom and Lightroom Classic here.
