Black Friday is coming early this year in The Portrait Masters Store with a lucky 13 days of sales leading up to Halloween, starting on Thursday, October 19. Every day, you’ll be able to get 50% off select photography courses and products, and throughout the entire sale, presets, editing guides, templates, plugins, and the entire course catalog will be 30-40% off site-wide.

The store also has new offerings from store favorites coming out during the sale. In this guide, you’ll learn about TPM’s new products and get a rundown on what’s for sale and when.

New Products in The Portrait Masters Store

The Portrait Masters Store will be debuting three new products during its Black Friday in October Sale – a new marketing course geared toward getting a consistent in-flow of clients from Nikki Closser, a course about making big bucks in a small studio from Ashleigh Taylor, and two new products from Alana Lee. Here’s what they’re all about.

Get More Clients: A Marketing Course for Photographers by Nikki Closser

Just in time for the Black Friday Sale, Nikki Closser is expanding her TPM Store course collection, which already features her popular Personal Branding System and Outdoor and On-Location courses. Closser’s new course, Get More Clients: A Marketing Course for Photographers, will be available for limited access only during the sale. It’s a comprehensive two-hour dive into photo business marketing. In it, Closser stresses that exceptional photography doesn’t guarantee a good living. You also need to market effectively. With a few minor adjustments, you can go from crickets to a steady stream of clients.

Her marketing playbook starts with language optimization across online platforms, social media and newsletters. She also provides tips on vouchers and working with past clients. The course also includes a 30-Day Social Media Blueprint PDF for crafting a sustainable social media marketing plan. During this advance release of Closser’s course, you can enjoy a 30% discount. Nikki’s other courses will be 50% off over the first weekend.

The Successful Small Photography Studio by Ashleigh Taylor

Ashleigh Taylor, known for her Instagram and Facebook marketing courses in The Portrait Masters Store, has just added to her repertoire with The Successful Small Photography Studio. The course shares insights from her experience into how to transform compact spaces, including hotel rooms, living spaces, and studios under 450 sq feet, into thriving portrait businesses.

The course is packed with pro tips, covering space-saving tricks, compact gear recommendations, and effective, positive client communication about space limitations. It also offers strategies to boost earnings, offering journal prompts to overcome pricing hurdles, tips for successful pre-consultations and reveal sessions, and ideas for in-person events. All of Taylor’s courses will be 50% off tomorrow.

Below is a glimpse of one of the twelve light setups included in Taylor’s Small Studio Lighting Guide included in the course. (A Small Studio Shopping Guide PDF is also included.)

Ashleigh Taylor’s One Bare Bulb Lighting Technique

This set up is as simple as they come as you are just using one light without a modifier. It utilizes hard light and is all about casting a shadow on the backdrop. The light is aimed at the subject and slightly off to the side of the subject.

PRO TIPS:

  • You need a white seamless backdrop to really see the contrast of the shadow.
  • Subject must be as close to the backdrop as possible for a defined shadow.
  • Where you place the light determines how the shadow appears. If the light is above the client’s eye, the shadow will appear smaller. If the light is below eye level, the shadow will be bigger. The more off to the side, the more distorted the shadow.
  • This setup is great for an edgy boudoir shoot or a unique branding shot!

The above is excerpted from Ashleigh Taylor’s Small Studio Lighting Guide PDF.

Two New Alana Lee Products

Self-Portrait © Alana Lee

Alana Lee already offers an extensive photo-editing collection in The Portrait Masters Store, featuring overlays with textures, fabric, wings and eyelashes plus backgrounds for headshots and glamour portraits. Her latest release, the Creative Photo Editing Toolkit, Volume 1, compiles all the elements she personally uses most, including portrait and headshot backgrounds, textures, and overlays of light, flowing fabric, and lace. Below, you’ll see a couple examples of this product in action.

Alana’s other new product, 200 Digital Wall Art Mockups, aids photographers in selling wall art by showcasing their work in marketing and social media. It also assists clients in visualizing image displays on their walls, priming them to purchase more wall art.

Creative Photo Editing Toolkit, Volume 1: Image Examples

© Alana Lee

This portrait was captured during the 2022 TPM conference. I loved the pose of the model, but I wanted the image to have more of a studio vibe, and I thought green and sand tones would better complement her red hair. By using a digital studio background from the Creative Photo Editing Toolkit Volume 1, I placed her in a different studio environment that better matched my creative vision. This was also a simple way to replace the trade show carpet in the foreground of the original capture!” –Alana Lee

“In this image, the model, Aphrodite, was styled as Lady Justice, and as soon as I saw her, I knew I wanted to place her in an ancient temple inspired by the Gods. I generated a digital background using the AI program Midjourney with the simple prompt “empty ancient temple with stone floor.” Then, I used the select subject tools in Photoshop to extract the model from the original backdrop. Using adjustment layers, I matched the color and contrast of the model with the temple background, placed a shadow under the subject to ground her in the image, and then added a light overlay (from the Creative Photo Editing Toolkit, Volume 1) between the subject and the background to create a glow effect behind her. When compositing elements together, I’ll often finish my workflow with an overall texture or color toning layer to blend everything together and make things more cohesive. To finish off this image I added a warm light leak from the Creative Photo Editing Toolkit, Volume 1.” — Alana Lee
