Software
While many software companies are on the hamster wheel of routine updates, Camera Bits has taken a more stately pace with its popular Photo Mechanic software. The last major update dates back to 2012 (though there have been numerous new builds between then and now).
Now, though, Camera Bits is ready with Version 6. At a high level, here’s what V.6 delivers:
- 64-bit operation
- thumbnail/preview generation is now 2-3x faster
- the ability to ingest only select images from a memory card
- a new user interface
- Photo Mechanic can use the GPS coordinates of geo-tagged images to automatically insert the city, state, and country names into an image’s metadata
- improved slide shows now feature multiple transitions including crossfade along with the ability to star and rate images during slide shows
- full-screen modes enable for both contact sheet view and the preview windows
- an improved crop tool that supports soft crops and rotations on JPEG exports
- Facebook uploading
You can check out the full list of new features here.
Photo Mechanic 6 costs $139 for new users and $89 for upgraders.
