Software
Potentially saving portrait photographers a lot of time during the editing process, Skylum Software has updated their Luminar program with a new AI Skin Enhancer as well as several other easy-to-use image editing features.
Unlike fairly recognizable high frequency Photoshop batch skin correction processes, Luminar 4 also bypasses manual masks and tedious localized image selections. Like batch processing, the software syncs adjustments across multiple photos.
Skylum says they will adapt to the skin tonality and features of new subjects as they are introduced, and the AI will equate for the overall skin content in the image, not only faces. With threshold control over the amount of applied effects, the single-click AI Enhancer provides results more or less immediately. Strengths are adjustable through sliders.
No more chasing clouds! In addition to the automatic AI Skin Enhancer, Luminar 4 also added new AI Sky Replacement and AI Structure tools. AI Sky Replacement will relight the entire photo so that the lighting and colors match newly added patches of sky.
For sharpening, the AI Structure tool automatically detects people to avoid any over-processing effects. Luminar 4 software also functions as image management software with exclusive filters, instant “Looks” and a photo organizer.
Even if you prefer manual image corrections, the plugin version looks to be a good way to preview different effects and applications. Video previews for all look to be quite fast.
Luminar 3 is on sale now. At $89 this November, Luminar 4 will work as standalone software, and is currently available as a plug-in for Apple Photos, Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Lightroom.
Skylum says that there is pre-order at $59 for current users and $69 for new users. If anyone has been using the software, or is interested in a full review, let us know what you think in the comments section.
