Meet the New Profoto A1X

May 15, 2019

By Greg Scoblete

Profoto is releasing an updated variant of its A1 on-camera flash in the new A1X.

While the two flashes share the same rounded flash head with a magnetic mount for modifiers, the A1X will have a more powerful battery that can deliver up to 450 full-powered flashes (vs. the A1’s 350).

You’ll enjoy slightly faster recycling times with the A1X as well–from .05-1 sec. vs. .05-1.2 sec. on the A1. Where the A1 was compatible with Nikon and Canon cameras, the A1X is compatible with Canon, Nikon and Sony models.

Beyond that, Profoto says the A1X has a slightly updated “fit, feel and finish.”

Like the A1, the A1X delivers 76 W/s of flash output and supports Profoto’s AirTTL and HSS. Power is adjustable over a 9-stop range. There’s an LED modeling lamp and a micro USB port for firmware updates.

The Profoto A1X is available now for $1,095.
