Canon’s latest PowerShot advanced compact cameras are aimed squarely at those hoping to aim the camera on themselves.
The new PowerShot G7 X III and the PowerShot G5 X Mark II deliver a host of vlogger-friendly functionality such as flip-up displays, YouTube live-streaming and a portrait mode when filming video.
The cameras will share a number of features including a 1-inch, 20-megapixel stacked CMOS sensor, DIGIC 8 processors, 4K/30p video recording, full HD recording at 60 and 120p, HDR video and a 20 fps burst mode. They’ll both also hit the highest native ISO of any model in this family to date at 12,800. They’ll feature Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and USB-C recharging.

PowerShot G7X III
The PowerShot G7 X III will deliver the aforementioned live streaming to YouTube using Wi-Fi. It also supports recording vertical video, though not when live streaming.
The camera has a mic jack and an integrated 24-100mm f/1.8-2.8 lens (equivalent) with image stabilization.

PowerShot G5 X Mark II
If you opt for the G5 X Mark II you’ll lose YouTube live streaming and a vertical video option but gain a longer, 24-105mm f/1.8-2.8 optically stabilized lens. You’ll also get a pop-up EVF with touch-and-drag AF points, which the G7 X lacks.
Additional features include:
- panoramic mode
- star shooting mode for capturing star trails and time-lapses of the night sky
- close focusing to 2 inches
- 3-inch vari-angle display

- 230 shot battery life or 320 in ECO mode
