It’s here—Fujifilm’s Fujinon XF 50mm f/1.0 R WR—the world’s first autofocus mirrorless lens with a maximum aperture of f/1.0, also being heralded as the fastest lens the company has ever made.

Dubbed “The One” by Fujifilm, the company is promising that it will change the way you work by providing incredibly shallow depth-of-field and extreme low-light performance of an f/1.0 lens without having to sacrificing autofocus or skimping on weather sealing.

“The FUJINON XF 50mm F1.0 R WR will allow you to experience sharpness like you have never seen before,” notes the company on its website. “Free from vignetting and the ability to control aberrations, it creates precision with extremely creamy bokeh. Autofocus on this F1.0 lens is effortless and the weather resistance removes any concerns that elements can cause. The XF 50mm F1.0 R WR is a powerful lens that will change the way you capture the world.” (See some sample images below.)

Adds Fujifilm’s Victor Ha, senior director of marketing and product management at Fujifilm North America: “We’re really excited about the XF50mmF1.0 R WR,” “Not only is it the fastest interchangeable lens Fujifilm has ever produced, but it’s also an incredible tool for visual storytellers to use in telling their stories because its autofocus can achieve critical focus at very shallow depth of fields.”

The XF 50mm F1.0 has 12 elements in nine groups, and contains one aspherical element and two extra-low dispersion (ED) elements—which pair with a 9-blade rounded aperture that goes from f/1.0 to f/16. It has a rounded diaphragm and its wide maximum aperture means that, paired with Fujifilm’s X-Pro3 and X-T4 cameras, users can autofocus at a luminance level of -7EV.

The XF 50mm F1.0 R WR will be available this fall for $1,499.95. Pre-order here.
