All Choked Up: The Capture of an Emotional Groom

Amy and Leon wrote their own wedding vows for their ceremony, which photographers Ash and Mick of MIKI Studios say isn’t something they see a lot in the UK. When it happens, though, they like to be right there to capture it, as they were in this case, of an image they refer to as “the emotional groom.”

“It’s always nice to hear couples talk from the heart about the person they love the most,” says Ash. “During the ceremony Amy went first and to say there wasn’t a dry eye in the house was an understatement—she spoke so beautifully about Leon and her love for him; we all knew it would be a hard act for Leon to follow.”

However, when Leon did start talking, Ash says it was clear he was going to go one one better than Amy and he gave a speech that knocked it out of the park.

“All the guest were emotionally charged from hearing Amy’s vows, so hearing Leon sent most people over the edge,” explains Ash. “He is a confident guy and delivered each word clearly and with power…until the end of the vows. That’s when he started to waiver and his ability to speak was slowly fading because of the impact of his own words, until the point where his words became his feelings and he couldn’t continue. This frame captures the moment when it all got a bit too much and he had to take a break.”
