New: DxO Nik Collection 3, Profoto Lighting Tools & More

DxO's Nik Collection 3 plugin suite not only features a performance boost but some new and enhanced features as well. For example, the Nik Selective Tool lets you directly access Nik plugins—and apply them—within Adobe Photoshop without launching Nik. Use the drop down menu for each plugin and you’ll find your favorite filters for that particular plugin.

New this week in tech, software and hardware releases and items you won’t want to overlook. These include Delkin’s highest-capacity CFexpress card to date, a Wireless Connect Module from DNP that allows users to print wirelessly directly from iOS, Mac and Android devices on the network to DNP printers, the latest version of the popular Nik Collection plugin suite—DxO Nik Collection 3—and Profoto’s new set of OCF II lighting tools.

Delkin 2TB CFexpress Memory Card

Delkin just announced a 2TB CFexpress card, the highest capacity CFexpress to date. The card utilizes a 3rd-generation PCI Express interface, supports NVM express and combines high capacity with speeds that exceed 1430MB/s.

Although there’s no word about availability or price, Delkin has conducted extensive testing with a number of cameras including Canon EOS C500 Mark II, 1-DX Mark III, Nikon Z6 and 7, Panasonic Lumix DC-S11 and S1R. Additional testing is currently being conducted with the Canon EOS C300 Mark III and R5 and the Nikon D6.

Each CFexpress card comes with a serial number and a 48-hour replacement guarantee for any non-working CFexpress card.

DNP Wireless Connect Module (WCM)

This new Wireless Connect Module allows users to print wirelessly directly from iOs, Mac and Android devices to DNP printers.

This new Wireless Connect Module allows users to print wirelessly directly from iOS, Mac and Android devices on the network to DNP printers. The WCM works with AirPrint, so there’s no need for a special app (except for older Android OS). Because the WCM creates a WiFi hotspot, multiple photo booths, event attendees and others can print to the DNP printers on the network.

Options can be configured via an admin page using a Web browser where print sizes and number of copies can be selected. The WCM is equipped with two USB ports so photos can be sent to multiple printers.

The latest version of the always-popular Nik Collection plugin suite not only features a performance boost but some new and enhanced features.

For example, with the Nik Selective Tool, you can directly access Nik plugins—and apply them–within Adobe Photoshop without launching Nik. Use the drop down menu for each plugin and you’ll find your favorite filters for that particular plugin.

The Selective Tool also offers a one-click “last edit” option so you can quickly and easily apply your previous preset to one or more images. Use the Selective Tool to check out plugin news, webinars and other resources in the Message Centre.

The new Perspective Efex provides automatic and manual perspective correction. This is perfect for architectural images, crooked horizons and wide-angle group shots at a wedding.

Prices: $100 ($60 for an upgrade) until June 30. After that, $149 for the full version, $79 for the upgrade.

Epson SureColor P700 and P900 Printers

Epson recently launched two new inkjet printers, the 13-inch P700 ($799) and the 17-inch P900 (above, $1,295). With a number of updates, these models replace the SureColor P600 and P800.

In addition to smaller footprints, both the P700 and P900 feature a larger, 4.3-inch touchscreen and an updated wireless system. The printers’ UltraChrome Pro10 inkset provides a broader color gamut and includes the addition of violet ink. A new 10-channel printhead, designed to last the life of the printer, includes dedicated channels for Photo and Matte black inks, eliminating the need to switch between the two.

The new Carbon Black mode increases the dMax by 11 percent (over the P800). You can now print and info sheet with printer data and a thumbnail to keep track of settings. Epson has also released an iOS app for color-managed printing from mobile devices.

Prices: $799 (13-inch P700) and $1,295 (the 17-inch P900). The SureColor P700 has a built-in roll feed while Epson offers an optional roll feed ($249) for the P900. The P700 is shipping now; the P900 will ship soon. For more details and to download the new app, visit the Epson site.

Hasselblad Firmware Update 1.2.0

Hasselblad has released a major firmware update for the X1D II 50C and the 907X Special Edition. For both models, the update includes 2.7K  and HD video at 29.97 fps, focus bracketing and image rating. Additionally, Exposure Bracketing now includes 2/3 stop steps and white balance tools have been improved (including a Picker, below, to take a neutral sample for accurate color balance).

For the X1D II 50C, users can now adjust the EVF proximity sensor. The firmware update also allows users to quickly reset the custom buttons to factory defaults.

Profoto OCF II Light Shaping Tools

Profoto’s new set of OCF II light shaping tools includes grids (from $69), a barndoor ($199) and snoot ($99). Other options in the OCF II line include a half dozen gels (from $69/each) and accessories such as an OCF II Grid and Gel Holder ($99). An OCF II Gel Ring uses magnets to attach to the OCF II Grid and Gel Holder or the OCF II Barndoor.

For a full complement, check out the OFC II Grid and Gel Kit. For $199 you get the OCF II Grid and Gel Holder, 20-inch grid, and half and full CTO gels. The set comes with a holder that mounts directly to all Profoto off-camera flashes. A soft bag is included for taking the set on location and keeping it neatly stowed away.

Ricoh GR III Street Edition

With all the functionality of the original GR III—a great compact camera for street photography—Ricoh has released a special “street edition” kit. With its metallic grey body, the camera is designed to mimic a city’s asphalt while the orange lens ring is reminiscent of the orange traffic lines on the street. New for this model is the Full Press Snap feature–use the touchscreen to focus on a specific distance and then shoot.

Price: $1,200 (Production is limited to 3,500 units so this may be a unique gift idea after mid-July when it ships.)

Billed as “the world’s first f/2.8 all-in-one zoom lens for full-frame mirrorless cameras,” this Sony E-mount 28-200mm f/2.8-5.6 Tamron lens for is compact and lightweight. It measures just 4.6-inches long and weighs 20.3 ounces.

The lens is moisture-resistant and features a zoom lock switch. The front lens element’s fluorine coating helps repel water and oil while also making it easier to clean. It’s compatible with camera features such as eye AF, direct manual focus and more. And, at 28mm, can focus as close as 7.5-inches. The RXD motor provides quiet operation, ideal for video recording.
