Renè Treece Roberts, of Luxe House Photographic in Asheville, North Carolina, says this portrait of her daughter Trumie is very raw.

“Her headdress and makeup are self-done so it’s wonky, her hair is messy, and her face is red from having a meltdown and crying right before the shot,” Roberts explains. “To me the image is about the realness of life, seeing the perfect in the imperfect, and how the sky can light your eyes in the midst of a s***storm that brings a beauty that no makeup or Photoshop can.”
