Photos of the Week
As a wedding photographer based in Louisiana, Sharon Pye has shot her fair share of nuptials in New Orleans, where a traditional celebration includes a “second line,” the brass band that accompanies festivities with a jubilant, colorful parade. “Second lines are super high energy and chaotic,” Pye says, “which is the beauty of them.”
Perhaps anticipating that chaos, Pye noticed what would have been an easily overlooked second of calm: “It was just before ceremony time and the groom’s mother was holding the bride’s bouquet while the bride was off for a second,” she explains. “It was just one of those moments that seemed so peaceful to me, and while everyone was scurrying to line up for ceremony, she just stood there so quiet and peaceful. It was a beautiful moment of calmness.”
