While Fujifilm hasn't released a rendering of its forthcoming 100-megapixel camera, we suspect it will resemble its existing medium format camera, the GFX 50S, pictured here.

Fujifilm is looking to please the pixel peepers with plans to launch a 100-megapixel medium-format camera in 2019 that will be the world’s first with a backside-illuminated CMOS sensor.

The as-yet-unnamed camera will also record 4K/30p video and be the first mirrorless medium-format camera with phase detect autofocusing, with PDAF sensors covering 100 percent of the frame. Another first will be the use of in-camera image stabilization.

Fujifilm and Phase One also announced that Capture One would now support full tethered shooting for the GFX-50S, 50R and X-T series cameras. Capture One will also support RAW processing for all GFX and X-series cameras.

New Medium-Format Lenses for 2019 and 2020

The company plans to launch two new medium-format lenses next year. The GF100-200mm f/5.6 R LM OIS WR will use an inner zoom mechanism and support the use of a teleconverter. It will be dust- and weather-resistant.

Also coming next year is the compact GF50mm f/3.5 R LM WR, the smallest and lightest GF lens to date. It uses an inner focusing mechanism and a linear motor drive for speedy autofocusing. It is also dust- and weather-resistant.

In 2020, Fujifilm will launch the GF45-100mm f/4 R LM OIS WR lens, which incorporates a linear motor, inner focusing mechanism, image stabilization and a dust- and weather-resistant design.
