Testing the Light

UK photographer Nick Murray wanted to capture the last remaining rays of sun from this wedding day at Bryngarw House in South Wales, so he and the couple had ventured to some secluded woods to get some portraits. Whenever he needs a second or two to figure out the right gear settings for the light, Murray will tell his couple to just relax and chat for a moment while he does so. Here, he did just that and took this frame just as a test.

“Scott was waiting for me here and just started to tidy up his hair,” Murray recalls. “It’s nice to get moments like this that feel like a different beat to the rest of the day. Scott and Rachel felt like best mates to me since we first met—you get that from shooting weddings. It’s such an intense experience, spending the day together on an emotionally charged day, that you can’t help but bond straight away. This friendship is born at the best of times and invariably carries on afterwards. It’s one of the joys of the job.”
