Braving the Downpour

“Allison had a very wet wedding to say the least,” says Brandon Scott, a photographer based in Monterey, California. “The rain poured all day long and didn’t let up. It was totally not expected to rain that day. Most brides may have been upset, but Allison, the adventurer she is, literally didn’t care. She was just stoked to be marrying Trevor.”

When Scott checked the forecast for the week, he saw rain for Thursday but nothing for Saturday, the day of the wedding. Regardless, he quickly ordered an umbrella via Amazon Prime in case it would come in handy anyway. “And it sure did,” he says.

“We had a little time to kill before the ceremony, and the rain started pounding down. So I asked if she’d be down to just step outside on her deck and snap a few in the rain. We grabbed her flowers and hopped outside real quick and snapped this. I got soaked, the camera got soaked, but it’s okay.” The Canon 5D Mark III he was using was “by no means waterproof,” Scott admits, “but it’s much tougher than people think. I run across people who baby their cameras so much so that it restricts their creativity. They are tools to create. I’m not suggesting that we spend hours shooting in the rain with them, but popping out for a few quick snaps like this isn’t going to kill it.”
