A Fish Out of Water

Houston’s Aisha Khan of Ama by Aisha found herself on a packed boat somewhere just below the Gulf of Naples. The vessel was ferrying wedding guests from the island of Capri to Italy’s Amalfi Coast. “They soaked up the sun, listened to live music and had their drinks,” Khan recalls, “but for anyone working on the boat, it was intensely hot and difficult to get around.” The working people included her, and a familiar face.

“As I stood in the middle of one end of the boat, I looked directly across from me and there stood photographer Carlo Carletti,” an award-winning international wedding photographer based in Italy, who’s perhaps most revered for his strikingly timeless black-and-white photos. “He stood a few feet away from me surrounded by the chaos of the partying guests,” Khan says. “He seemed totally and perfectly out of place. I felt a bit intrusive taking his photo, but the image I saw was too unique to pass on a click.”
