Photos of the Week
A wedding, portrait and lifestyle photographer based in Key West, Florida, Lena Perkins normally gets couples from all over the country and abroad “that are coming to our tiny tropical island to celebrate their special day,” she says. Not this couple, though—they were locals. “We call them ‘conchs,’ ” Perkins adds.
Because the bride and groom weren’t out-of-towners, and therefore knew passersby, their day was “so disrupted by the local people stopping to congratulate them throughout the day that by the end of it, we had literally 10 minutes for bridal portraits before the sun went down,” the photographer recalls. “It started to rain a little and everything was so rushed, plus the couple was standing so far away from me that I had to shout really loudly to direct them and scared a bunch of birds that made a nice addition to the cloudy backdrop.”
