Editor’s Pick: Victorian Grace by Sue Bryce

When I first came upon this mesmerizing portrait by Sue Bryce, shot for designer R-Mine Bespoke, I was immediately drawn in by its delicacy and daintiness but also impressed by the sense of power and strength being exuded (there’s definitely something to be said for direct eye contact in a portrait). So how did it come together for the beauty and glamour photographer who is a real pro at posing and propping her shoots?

“It just so happened I got a loaner Canon 5DS for a 5-hour window that day and it was love at first sight,” Bryce explains. “The 5DS will definitely be my next camera. But as I am always teaching others, you can’t keep buying equipment unless it makes the ship go faster so I am trying as hard as I can to wear out my 5D Mark III,” she says with a laugh. Given that Bryce is one of the hardest working shooters and educators I know, that might happen sooner than later.

In the meantime, she will be making a much-awaited appearance at PDN’s PhotoPlus Expo later this month in New York City, where she will present the seminar “Posing Women.” She recently launched a private channel on her website where, she says, a wonderful group of photographers have joined to learn and build and grow. “I am in there every day and I am watching people transform their portrait businesses.”
