Photos of the Week

Eye-Catching Portraits and Photos of the Week

November 21, 2022

By Jacqueline Tobin

We kick off the week with some compelling wedding, boudoir and maternity images that have one thing in common—a signature look honed by each photographer. Below, each photographer explains how they got the shot.

This image, by Lucy Schultz, is of couple Talitha & Danny’s Elopement at Mammoth Lakes, California, in September of this year.

This is a 360-degree panorama of the scene where Talitha and Danny chose to elope,” Schultz says. “They came all the way from the UK to the epic mountains of California and in addition to photographing their marriage, I had the honor of officiating it.”

Schultz adds that this type of image has become her signature look and that every client gets one at the end of their session. “This image is created by first making a 12-image classic panorama,” she explains, “then the two edges of the panorama are bent together so that the horizon becomes round and the couple is standing on their own tiny planet. This is the only way to see in all directions without using a drone.”

The image below was taken by Amanda Collette at her Pure Poise Photography Studio in Argonne, Wisconsin.

“I truly enjoy only shooting authentic clients who are looking for the experience of boudoir, not just the pretty images,” the photographer says. “It’s part of my signature look. With [client] Jillian, this was her first time in front of a camera in this way and we made some gorgeous images together. This is a timeless and flattering pose that I shoot for all of my first-time clients. Its perfect simplicity is always a favorite, especially the way the viewer’s eyes are drawn to her lips and down her body line.

“I love that this image is so soft and simple, and that the lighting was hitting their skin perfectly. Plus I love that they both seem so happy.”

Photographer Scott Pierson of Magicc Imagery says that the very first time he shot with subject Amy, it was with another friend of theirs and he captured some great images at that shoot. “I found out later that she was pregnant with her first boy and was not even aware of that fact when we did that shoot,” he explains. “Over the years they became close friends and when she became pregnant with her second child, she asked Pierson to do a maternity shoot with her.

“She was radiant in her beauty, and it was such a pleasure to photograph a very dear friend,” he explains. “She is a wonderful mother, and I am so very happy that we are in each other’s lives and get the chance to watch each other grow into the people that we have become.”

Scott Stockton was photographing in downtown Winston-Salem, NC, which he says isn’t a very big city, but had these “big, empty industrial buildings which made you feel like you were in Detroit or Chicago. It had a Gotham city feel to it,” he explains.

“I loved how the buildings on the left and right were framing the scene on the bridge so I put my couple on top and had an assistant hold a flash with a Magmod sphere on it aimed at the couple.
