Turns out the rumors are true. Leica’s M-A ‘Titan’, a limited-edition, film camera and lens, was just announced and is limited to just 250 pieces worldwide and retailing at just under $20,000. Feel like a splurge?!

The all-mechanical M-A analog film camera and high-performing APO-Summicron-M 50mm f/2 ASPH lens, are both made of solid titanium, resulting in extreme durability with less weight. This new edition also continues a tradition that started in 2001 with the Leica M6 TTL “Titanium”, now in its 6th edition.

As a “purely mechanical camera,” the company says that having just the essentials opens up entirely new creative horizons for photographers. “It may have no monitor, no exposure meter, and no battery, but what it does have is a mechanical quality that makes Leica’s 100 years of experience instantly tangible. Photographers can read the shutter speed and aperture directly from the camera and lens and so concentrate fully on their subject.”

Leica adds that, “the sophisticated design of the special edition is enhanced by the classic ‘Ernst Leitz Wetzlar’ engraving on the top plate. The set includes the APO-Summicron-M 50 f/2 ASPH, whose external components are also made of titanium for this special edition—and whose appearance is modeled after the very first Summicron-M with a 50 mm focal length, introduced in 1956.

“Another element of the set’s classic aesthetic is the round lens hood, also made of solid titanium. With its unparalleled optical performance, the APO-Summicron-M 50 f/2 ASPH. represents the pinnacle of full-frame lens design. [And] the set comes in a special presentation box with an inner lining of black silk.”

The Leica M-A Titan Set with APO-Summicron-M 50mm f/2 ASPH will start shipping soon, priced at $19,995.
