Updated 8/15/22: PHOTOPLUS has postponed Create NYC until 2023. The brand made the announcement on its website and on Twitter. “We at the Create NYC team have decided to pause our plans for 2022 to build a truly dynamic experience for 2023. We discovered the show needs some extra time to produce the collective & inspiring experience imagined for this dynamic space.”
After two years of in-person event cancellations due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the largest annual photography event in the U.S.—PHOTOPLUS—returns for 2022 with a new name, location and focus. Create NYC Powered by PHOTOPLUS, will be held from September 29 to October 1 at the Duggal Greenhouse in Brooklyn, New York.
PhotoPlus—which is owned and operated by Emerald X (also the parent company of Rangefinder, WPPI, and The Portrait Masters) has brought the photography community together to connect, share ideas and experience the newest imaging technology on the market since 1983. Now the trade show and conference morphs into a 3-day immersive, festival-like experience to build a new community for visual storytellers who want to take their skills to the next level, connect with other creatives and test new gear.
“Create NYC celebrate all visual storytellers whose work crosses various platforms, expresses shared experiences, inspires dialogue for change, and blurs the lines between art and cultural relevance,” says Create NYC Show Director Joseph Kowalsky.

“The decision to re-imagine PHOTOPLUS into Create NYC was in response to demand from a rapidly growing emerging creator community,” he explains. “The definition of an imaging professional and visual storyteller has broadened. Create NYC aims to be the home for all using imaging technology to create stories that trigger emotion and impact society.”
Adds Kowalsky: “We return with a curated main stage, intimate hands-on learning, mentorship sessions, image reviews and creator experiences that will be led by engaging photographers, filmmakers, designers, editors, marketers and artists during the 3-day event.”
The festival-type setting will have an intimate event floor where a variety of brands and education will be showcased and include experiential activations that include the following topics: lighting, motion and filmmaking, street photography, drones, fashion, food, still life, storyboarding and much more.
According to show organizers, this is will be a great experience where you can “rub shoulders with other creatives, enjoy a brew in the Beer Garden, test out new gear on Creator Row and learn from the pros themselves”—including photographers, filmmakers, designers, editors, marketers and artists—on one of the creator walks or main stage.
Tickets for Create NYC go on sale starting June 13 with pricing ranging from $150-$300 and quantities are limited. Head over to photoplusexpo.com for more information.
