As promised earlier this year and following a Beta program from 2021, Capture One has just launched Capture One Live. This add-on enables photographers to remotely share images and collaborate with clients and team members in real time (or after a shoot). Given the increase in remote work during the past couple of years, Capture One Live should prove invaluable to many photographers whether your client, retoucher or other team members are in the same city or on a different continent. Wedding and portrait photographers can forego in-person meetings to choose final images for an album or prints. And because this add-on is part of Capture One Pro, you can edit as you go, with changes reflected in real time instead of having multiple go-arounds with a client.

Conveniently integrated into the main software, Capture One Live is a click away thanks to the dedicated icon in the Toolbar for Sessions or Catalogs. In addition to viewing images at full scale, everyone who is invited via an automatically generated URL can also see image file names along with color tags and/or star ratings that you’ve attached to the photos. Participants can also rate and tag images directly. All they need is a browser so tablets, smart phones and computers/laptops are viable options.

Live sessions can be activated for seven days; we’re not sure what happens after that. The worst that can happen is that you start a new session and generate a new URL.

Given Capture One’s excellent tethering capabilities, it’s no surprise that you can enable a “Follow” option so that viewers can see images as they’re captured. Real time edits are also visible with this feature.
Up to 25 people can participate in a session at the same time. It’s unlikely that wedding and portrait photographers will need—or want—to take advantage of this, however. But for commercial shoots, being able to collaborate with large teams can be beneficial. Better yet, there’s no limit to how many files you can share in a session.
You’ll need the latest version of Capture One Pro 22 to take advantage of the Live feature. Capture One is offering an introductory monthly price of $10 for Capture One Live. A 30-day free trial Capture One Pro 22 can be downloaded here.
